Plan Your Approach
Learn how to navigate advocacy at the local level (who the key players are, and what issues and concerns they are currently facing). It will help you to plan your approach and create a case that offers solutions and supports district goals and needs.
Remember to:
- Read board minutes from past meetings on the district Web site and review media coverage of board meetings in back issues of local newspapers.
- Find out when board meetings are taking place and what the protocol is for making presentations.
Once you have gotten a feel for the advocacy climate in your community, you can begin developing your strategy and writing your script.
