Minneapolis values the role the arts play in the city's cultural heritage, economy and contemporary life. Arts for Academic Achievement (AAA) was established 10 years ago to encourage systemwide educational reform aimed at increasing student achievement, and improving teacher practice by making arts-based and arts integrated learning an integral part of classroom instruction in Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS). AAA's deep roots in the schools and city-wide community ensure all students benefit from arts learning through partnerships with local arts organizations and artists who offer teachers support for curriculum and classroom management.
AAA's relationship with the University of Minnesota has documented the Arts' impact on learning styles, enhancing academic rigor, and offering life enrichment and community productivity. With partner, the Perpich Center for the Arts Education, AAA has created groundbreaking programs and materials such as The Artful Handbook. ARTS REACH is their newest public engagement effort.
Today with the support of Achieve! Minneapolis and its Ford Foundation Grant, AAA is poised to expand public advocacy activities and join in the dialogue to position the Arts prominently, as both MPS' new leadership develops a new long term strategic plan, and City entities look towards preparing their communities for the future.
