Art Exhibition Highlights Student Achievement in the Arts and Vital Role of Arts Education in Local Schools

(Date) –Student achievement was in the spotlight last night at the opening ceremony of an art exhibition of art work made by local students. $27,000 in cash prizes were awarded to students for work inspired by the theme, Growing Up in America.
Schools and students in Anytown, USA have experienced significant advances in student achievement as the arts have become infused into the curriculum.

"The impact the arts has had on our children’s academic success has been incredible. This year, grades are up by 15% in all subjects, and I can’t help but think that arts integration affected that outcome exponentially," comments Superintendent Jane Doe, "this year's exhibition demonstrates the power of arts integration in educating the whole child and generally creating a positive moral in the Anytown School system. I only hope this program can help to empower the arts education movement."

Children, teachers, schools and communities all benefit when the arts are a part of the learning experience. As Congress considers reauthorizing the NCLB Act this year, we need to make sure that arts education gets the attention it deserves.

Unfortunately, the implementation of the NCLB Act has meant that arts education has taken a back seat to preparing our students to take achievement tests in math and science. For more information on the NCLB Act and arts education, visit www.keepartsinschools.org.
